Photographs hold the scene, but notes hold the temperature. A folded place card, a line from a toast, or the list someone made before the doors opened can return you to the day with startling accuracy.
01Keep the margins
Save the pieces that contain evidence of use: the menu with a pencil mark, the envelope softened by a pocket, or the program folded at the ceremony page. These marks are not imperfections to remove. They are proof that the paper travelled through the day with you.
02Invite guests into the archive
Instead of asking every guest for a formal message, offer a small prompt: a wish for an ordinary Tuesday, a song to play when life feels heavy, or a memory they hope you keep. Specific prompts produce notes with a longer life than generic congratulations.
03Store with care, not ceremony
A simple archival box, a cool dry shelf, and a short index are enough. Add the date and one sentence about the day. The archive should be easy to revisit, not so precious that you are afraid to open it.
